Diamonds are tough—but not invincible.

Perhaps you’ve heard that it’s impossible to damage a diamond? Not true, says Burstein. While the stones are considered the hardest naturally occurring metal in the world, they can still fracture, bruise, and chip. “Prong mountings are very secure and it takes a pretty aggressive knock, but it happens. I’ve seen a month-old ring with a big chip in it, “It’s like driving a new car off the lot and getting rear-ended.” So please remove the ring when doing gym work, gardening or in the kitchen.

At home Soak engagement rings in a bowl that contains four parts warm water and one part household ammonia for no more than ten minutes. Brush the ring very gently with a very soft small brush, such as a child’s toothbrush or a soft toothbrush, dip it back into the solution, rinse it in cool or lukewarm water and leave it to drain on a lint-free cloth or towel.

If you’d prefer not to use ammonia, make a bowl of warm, soapy water using liquid detergent and leave your engagement ring to soak for around 30 minutes. Note: Paper tissues can leave fibres and dust on the ring and are therefore less suitable for rubbing your diamond engagement ring dry than jewellery cloths or other lint-free fabrics.

A professional clean and check-up is always a good idea. This should be done at least once a year. It gives you the opportunity to have the best sparkle and also your jeweller will tell you the condition of your stones, so that you could take appropriate action in order to protect your engagement ring.

Always pick up your ring from the band, not the diamond, to avoid natural oils from your fingers building up around the stone’s setting and preventing the rock from coming loose. It’s always advisable to remove your diamonds when cleaning or using harsh chemicals such as bleach and hair dye, as they may have the potential to cause lasting damage.

As diamonds can scratch other jewellery and gemstones or could be scratched by other diamonds best to keep your ring away from other jewellery items. We suggest keeping your Rod Valenz engagement ring in it’s original pink and black suede leather box.

Don’t remove engagement rings in public

Just got engaged, and you are out with your friends and they all want a closer look at your beautiful engagement ring, please be very careful not to drop it in a busy crowd, and also the sparkle of your diamond would be compromised. (Keep away the grease and hand cream) Hand washing is a must in a public restroom but resists the temptation to remove engagement rings. The possibility that you might leave your engagement ring on the edge of the sink, or, worse, drop it down the drain, is too great a risk to take.

Purchase Insurance

Insurance, is necessary to protect your financial investment (at least for the first year) in the event that something gets lost, stolen or damaged, especially engagement rings It is also important to have your jewellery appraised every five years as the cost of diamonds and precious metals change.
